The Gymea Lily – Doryanthes excelsis – was a flower of Lynette’s childhood. Growing up in the Sutherland Shire in Sydney this plant was an icon of this area with its tall pink flower spikes rising above the surrounding bushland.

This piece draws on the spectacular flower spikes and separate lillies that form the flower head.
